NABL carries out third party, independent, accreditation of competence of ‘Testing & Calibration Laboratories’, which include Clinical Laboratories, under the requirements of ISO 15189: 2003, specific for competence of Testing Laboratories. Accreditation under ISO 15189 Global Standards, demonstrates the competence of the laboratory to produce technically valid data and results. (Compliance under ISO 15189 Global Standards includes compliance under ISO 9001 & 9002). NABL maintains its linkage with international bodies like ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Conference) and APLAC (Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation).
